About This Service

Women's health encompasses far more than reproductive care. At RASMED Clinic, we provide integrated, whole-person healthcare for women at every stage of life — from adolescence through menopause and beyond. Our physicians take the time to understand your full health picture and provide evidence-based care in a respectful, private environment at our Valley Stream and Brooklyn locations. Annual well-woman exams are the cornerstone of preventive women's health care. During your visit, we perform a complete physical exam, order age-appropriate cancer screenings, conduct a Pap smear when indicated, review your contraceptive options, assess your hormonal health, and address any concerns you may have — all in a single, comprehensive appointment. We also coordinate mammography referrals, bone density testing, and specialist consultations as needed. For women managing chronic conditions such as PCOS, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, or hormonal imbalances, we offer ongoing, personalized medical management. We also support women through perimenopause and menopause with evidence-based guidance on hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do I need a Pap smear?

Current ACOG guidelines recommend a Pap smear every 3 years for women aged 21–29, and either a Pap smear alone every 3 years OR a Pap smear with HPV co-test every 5 years for women aged 30–65. Your physician will personalize this schedule based on your history, including any prior abnormal results or HPV status.

What is included in a well-woman exam?

A complete well-woman exam includes a review of your medical history, vital signs, breast examination, pelvic examination, Pap smear (on schedule), STI screening, cardiovascular and metabolic risk assessment, contraceptive review, mental health screening, and age-appropriate cancer screening orders (mammography, colonoscopy, DEXA). We also address any specific health concerns you bring to the visit.

I am experiencing hot flashes and irregular periods — could this be menopause?

These are very common symptoms of perimenopause — the transitional phase before menopause, which can begin in your 40s. Our physicians will evaluate your hormone levels (FSH, estradiol), review your symptoms, and discuss both hormonal (HRT) and non-hormonal treatment options to help you manage symptoms and protect your long-term bone and cardiovascular health.

Do you prescribe birth control?

Yes. We provide comprehensive contraceptive counseling and prescribe all hormonal methods (pills, patch, ring, injection, hormonal IUD) and can coordinate placement of long-acting reversible contraceptives (IUD, implant). We take a non-judgmental approach and help you select the method that best fits your health, lifestyle, and reproductive goals.

I think I may have a UTI — what should I do?

Common UTI symptoms include burning with urination, frequent urges to urinate, cloudy or strong-smelling urine, and pelvic discomfort. Walk-in or call us — we can see you the same day. We collect a urine sample, perform a rapid urinalysis, and prescribe appropriate antibiotics when confirmed. Untreated UTIs can progress to kidney infections, so early treatment is important.
